Robert Fulton was
born in 1765. Famous
for his steamboat "Clermont", he
also invented canal machinery, a "diving boat", and torpedoes.
He was also an accomplished artist.
The house where Fulton was born, built in 1765, was destroyed by fire in 1822. It has since been restored to its original appearance. The house shows what life was like in the mid-18th century. Many of Fulton's activities are recounted here.
