This 1738 mill is a water-driven grist mill is the reason for this village. When John Herr settled here, he chose this land by the Pequea Creek to build his mill, which was, and still is, an important center of activity.

In the early 18th century, Herr's Mill was an important neighborhood center. serving as a stop between tripsand a place to purchase supplies and exchange news for locals and visitors alike. The Mill and the Village functioned from the 1800's until 1929 which was the last year the Mill operated.
