This museum pictures the growth of Lititz from Indian settlements through the incorporation of the present Borough system. The Sutter Room, dedicated to General John Sutter (founder of Sacramento, CA and resident of Lititz during the 1800's), is furnished with items from his home. A showcased Display Area features different exhibits each year presented on loan from local collectors. Genealogy and historical research are made possible in the staff-assisted Library.
A beautifully landscaped setting located to the rear of the Museum buildings features an authentic heritage garden, water garden and a pleasing blend of flora which combine to create a perfect setting for functional use for both receptions and special events.
The main exhibit of the Lititz Museum is an actual 1792 restored home named for the local tanner and dyer, Johannes Mueller, and is completely furnished with period items. Enjoy stepping into the past with a guided tour of the entire house and a dialog of the life of a tradesman living during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Few people know firsthand what it was like to live in a closed Moravian settlement.
